September Prayer Points

Shalom, prayer warriors,

We are currently in the month of Elul, the final month of the year on the Jewish calendar, a time of preparation for the High Holy Days of Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. This is a time of repentance and seeking atonement, and according to Jewish tradition, a time to seek forgiveness for all sins committed against our fellow man, make amends as far as we can and resolve to do better in the future. This process of doing mitzvot – good works of righteousness – is believed to make us righteous before man and God. However, our works can never atone for our sins. The Lord gave the nation of Israel a means to atone for sin on the Day of Atonement, Yom Kippur, through the shedding of blood. On that day, and only that day, the High Priest was to bring the sacrificial blood into the Holy of Holies and present it before the Lord to make atonement for his sins and those of the nation of Israel. This foreshadowed Jesus, who would come to make the final and perfect atonement – not only for the nation of Israel but for all the nations of the world.

For the life of the flesh is in the blood, and I have given it for you on the altar to make atonement for your souls, for it is the blood that makes atonement by the life. (Leviticus 17:11)

Please join us in praying for:

  • the Jewish community in South Africa as they prepare for the High Holy Days. Pray that their eyes would be opened to the truth of salvation: a free gift from the Lord through the atoning death of Jesus on the cross.

  • an end to anti-Semitism, especially as the memorial of the atrocities of 7 October falls between Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur this year. Pray also that the Lord will frustrate the plans of the enemies of Israel who would use this memorial to celebrate and perhaps even perpetuate even more acts of violence and anti-Semitism.

  • our upcoming outreach to the Jewish community during the High Holy Days. Pray that Christians will join us in standing with our Jewish people, showing them the love of Messiah in this difficult season.

  • the living hostages still held in Gaza, the rescued hostages and their families. Pray that the Lord will comfort all those who mourn and that He will work through this trauma and pain to bring them all to a knowledge of Jesus, their Messiah.
